Mary Theresa Meza, 70, of Hart, passed away Saturday, December 5, 2020. She was born February 11, 1950, in Hart, the daughter of Mitchell and Mamie (Bailey) Battice.

Mary was an amazing wife, mother, sister, grandma, nurse, and friend. She attended Muskegon Community College, West Shore Community College, and Grand Valley State University. She was a Registered Nurse for 49 years, having served her community at Hart Hospital, Mercy Health Lakeshore Campus in Shelby, and Valley Baptist Medical Center in Texas. Mary had also been a traveling nurse, and a flight nurse with Aero Med.

Mary was a member of the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians, and enjoyed going to the casino. She also loved tending to her garden and traveling; she traveled three times to Alaska, Colorado to go whitewater rafting, and Rome, Italy to visit Vatican City. Mary was a warrior, caregiver, peacemaker, and was merciful to all.

Mary is survived by: her children, Maria (Matthew Scofield) Meza, Alicia (Sonnie) Smith, Jose (Jodi) Meza, and Cristina (Rene) Aguilar; grandchildren, Bailey Scofield, Alyssa Scofield, Samantha Smith, Sabrina Smith, Micki Smith, Caleb Smith, Michael Cole, Miranda (Jessie) Blanton, Mariah (Christopher Stewart) Cole, Joshua Meza, Jolie Meza, Jorjia Meza, Justin Zuniga, Andres Zuniga, Benny Zuniga, Lexi Aguilar, Korbin Garcia, and Whitney Gebhart; 7 great-grandchildren; siblings, Helen Scripter, Emily Smith, Frances "Ponce" Zamborowski, Clarence (Connie) Battice, Phil Battice, Roma Battice, and Alice Battice; and in-laws, Tae Nam Meza, Elida (Juan) Mendiola, Juanita (Albino) Perez, Jose Fidel (Yolanda) Meza, Alberto (Ana Mora) Meza, Guadalupe (Arturo) Flores, and Carlos (Anna Marie) Meza.

Mary was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Miguel Meza; daughter, Yolanda (Randy) Cole; sister, Gail Melendrez; and in-laws, Jose C and Gumecinda Galvan Meza,  Leon Smith, Charles Zamborowski, Jesus Meza, and Cristina Mercado.

Memorial services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Saturday, May 29, 2021, at Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, King-Hart Chapel, 2370 N 72nd Avenue, Hart, MI 49420. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Indian Cemetery, Elbridge Township.

The family would like to thank the staff at Mercy Health Lakeshore Campus in Shelby, and Mercy Health Mercy Campus in Muskegon, for the kind and compassionate care they gave to their coworker and friend.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Mary Meza Memorial, care of Fifth Third Bank, 424 South State Street, Hart, MI 49420. The contributions will go toward the Mary Meza Nursing Scholarship at Hart Public Schools.
