Mary Lou Sandberg, 75, of Whitehall, passed away Friday, November 6, 2020, at the Poppen Hospice Residence in Muskegon. She was born August 25, 1945, in Muskegon, the daughter of Gerrit and Cornelia (Zuidema) Vanderwest.
Mary retired from the US Postal Service where she was employed as a clerk for over 10 years. Prior to the Postal Service, Mary was employed at Howmet for over 20 years. In her spare time, Mary enjoyed flowers, gardening and traveling. Most of all, Mary loved spending time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren.
Mary is survived by: her daughter, Paige (Troy) Botts of Williamston, South Carolina; her grandchildren, Madison Botts and Carter Botts; her brother, Sam (Paulette) Vanderwest of Muskegon; numerous nieces and nephews; and her companion, Joseph Newman.
On June 6, 1964, in Muskegon, Mary married Donald Martin Sandberg, who preceded her in death in 2012. She was also preceded in death by: 3 brothers, Richard, Melvin and Robert Vanderwest; and 2 sisters, Wilma Brusky and Irma Vanderwest
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, November 9, 2020, at Fruitland Township Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Harbor Hospice Poppen Residence.
Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, White Lake Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
