Smith, Mary K. (Wells), 81, died peacefully on July 9, 2018 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of Thomas Allen Smith.
Born in Jackson, MI, a daughter of the late Irving and Margaret (Will) Wells-Leedy, she lived in Barrington RI., for the past 3 years previously residing in Wellesley, MA. Mary lived in many places throughout her life and always considered Whitehall, MI. her home.
Mary K. worked as an occupational therapist for the Boston Public School Department for over 10 years. She was a graduate of Eastern Michigan University earning a Bachelor of Science degree. She also earned a certificate in Sensory Integration from the University of Southern California. She was a member of the A.O.T.A. and was an Autism Specialist. Mary K. enjoyed working with and helping deaf children. She was a member of St. John Church in Wellesley, MA and in her time in Michigan she regularly attended St. James Catholic Church.
Mary K. enjoyed life to its fullest but one of the greatest joys in her life was always spending time with her loving grandchildren. She will be deeply missed.
Mary is survived by: her husband of over 50 years, Tom; children, Mark (Kim), David (Denise), Tom (Jill), Jennifer (Gary) Gildea, Patrick (Kaori); 21 grandchildren; sisters, Karen Yahr and Anne Burel; and brother, Ron Wells.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 12 noon on Monday, July 16, 2018 at St. James Catholic Church 5149 Dowling Street Montague MI. with Father Norman Droski officiating. Visitation will be held the day of the mass from 9-11am at Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service 413 S. Mears Ave. Whitehall. Interment will take place at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Montague.
