Obituary

Max Kokx of Pentwater, MI and Vero Beach, FL passed away on December 23, 2015.

He was born on May 27, 1933, the son of Harold and Lillian Kokx of Hart.

He attended St. Joseph's Catholic school and graduated from Hart High School with the class of 1951. He served in the Korean Conflict from 1952 through 1954 receiving an honorable discharge in 1954. On May 17, 1958 he married Evelyn Winczewski of Ludington. They were married for 57 years.

Max was a very successful fruit and asparagus grower with his goal to always raise and deliver a better crop. He was a member of the American Legion, the Knights of Columbus; Michigan Asparagus Grower Association, National Asparagus Board, and St. Joseph's Catholic Church. He served on the original National Asparagus Festival Board. He also served on the Michigan Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Association, Michigan Asparagus Research Committee, Michigan Farm Bureau Board, Michigan Cherry Marketing Committee (Commission), Michigan Horticultural Board, and board member of the Oceana County Bank.

He is survived by his wife Evelyn, and four children; Laura (Carey) Cavanaugh of Lexington, KY, Roger (Tami) Kokx of Hart, Kenneth (Karyn) Kokx of Hart, Ann (Don) Templet of Pearland, TX as well as seven grandchildren; Chase and Keith Cavanaugh, Andrew and Nathan Kokx, Lauren Kokx, and Ryan and Alyssa Templet. Sisters Shirley Mahynski of Grand Rapids, Donna Gourley of Traverse City, and brother-in-law Joseph Callaci of California; brother in law, Robert (Rose Alice) Huber of Ludington. He is also survived by his aunts.

He was preceded in death by his parents Harold and Lillian Kokx, and sister Mildred Callaci; three nephews and one niece.

The Mass of the Resurrection for Max will be offered Saturday, January 9, 2016 at 11:00 AM from St. Joseph Catholic Church, Weare with Fr. Phillip Sliwinski presiding. Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the King Funeral Home in Hart and Saturday one hour prior to the Mass at the church.
