Maxine Mary Schmiege, 88, of Whitehall, passed away Saturday, June 11, 2022. She was born July 5, 1933, in Muskegon, the daughter of Charles and Laura (Loehr) Hain.

Maxine was a Registered Nurse, and later the office manager for her and her husband's company, D&M Electric. A nature lover, she had many hobbies including gardening, flowers, going to horse shows and 4-H events, bird watching, and her beloved animals. Maxine loved time with family including making cookies and trying new recipes.  She loved holiday gatherings, family card games, never wanting the fun to end.  Maxine was the gentle and kind matriarch of our family.

Maxine is survived by: her loving husband, Donald Schmiege; their children, William (Jean) Schmiege and Kathy Schmiege; grandchildren, Jessica (Frank) Fisher, Christopher (Heather) Schmiege, Rachele (Stefan Barner) Schmiege, Elizabeth Wright, and Diane (Alvin) Davis; great-grandchildren, Jade, Silas, Larry (Rhi), Landon, Arianna, and Donavin; and her brother, Charlie (Barbara) Hain.

Maxine was preceded in death by: her parents and daughter, Merrie Schmiege.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM, Thursday, June 16, 2022, at Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, White Lake Chapel, 413 South Mears Avenue, Whitehall, MI 49461, with The Rev. David C. Meyers officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday, from 12:00 PM, until time of services at the funeral home. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Montague, with a luncheon to follow at the Montague-Whitehall Lodge #198 F.&A.M. (Masonic Lodge), 5425 Dowling Street, Montague.
