Obituary

Melvern Earl Windnagle, 91, of Traverse City, formerly of Grawn, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 21, 2026. He was born December 24, 1934, in Detroit, the son of Melvern and Ida (Lorenz) Windnagle.

Earl Windnagle was a devoted husband and father who led a life marked by dedication and hard work. He enjoyed a distinguished career with Chrysler, beginning as a tool and dye maker and then serving primarily as a quality control manager for Dodge Main and Jefferson Assembly in Detroit. Even after retirement, Earl's strong work ethic led him to return to employment, this time on the international stage, working abroad in China. His commitment to his profession was matched by his devotion to his family.

Eventually, Earl relocated his family to their cherished home on Duck Lake Peninsula in Interlochen, a cabin he had built, converted into a welcoming residence that reflected his love for Northern Michigan. During his early retirement, Earl embraced all that the region had to offer. He was an avid outdoorsman who found joy in hiking, fishing, camping and hunting, often accompanied by one of his cherished bird dogs. Earl also discovered a profound passion and talent for singing, becoming an active member of both the NMC Choir and the Cherry Capital Men’s Chorus.

Earl's faith was the cornerstone of his life. As a longtime member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Interlochen, his spiritual convictions provided strength and comfort throughout his journey. Those who loved him will deeply miss his presence, yet take solace in knowing that Earl now rests in the abiding presence of his Savior. He is reunited with his beloved wife, Gina, whose love remained a guiding light for him even after her death.

Earl is survived by: his children, Linda (Jay) Eastman of Rochester Hills, Larry (Kari) Windnagle of Kalispell, Montana, Colleen Woskoff of Waterford, Nancy Windnagle of Royal Oak, Michael (Ashley) Windnagle of Owosso, and Jeannine Pashchuk of Traverse City; and grandchildren, Cindy Macks, Jeff Eastman, Emily Smith, Amber Clegg, Michael White, Amanda White, Adam White, Harper Windnagle, Olive Windnagle, Samuel Pashchuk, Isaac Pashchuk, and Anastasia Pashchuk.

During his 21-year marriage to Joanne Trombly, beginning in 1956, they welcomed four children together. On July 8, 1977, Earl married Luigina “Gina” Tamborelli and together they had two additional children. Gina preceded him in death on January 8, 2024. He was also preceded in death by: his parents; and grandchildren, Nick Eastman and Alex Windnagle.

A service is being planned for the spring.  Details will be posted soon.

Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, Covell-Traverse City Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
