Mercile Louise
Olson
May 23, 1946 — Jun 18, 2026
Mercile Louise “Weasie” Olson, 80, of Mears, passed away Wednesday, June 18th, 2026. She was born on May 23rd, 1946, to Doris Louise Brandel and George Carl Brandel in Hart, MI.
There are not enough words to describe the vibrancy of her personality with any accuracy. Exuberant, outgoing, loyal, to know her was to love her and to hear her coming from a mile away. She would often wake her children in their house in Mears with the cry, “Rise and shine in the Olson camp!”. Her friends and family knew if they ever lost her, they could just be quiet for a moment and her laughter and chatter would lead them back. She was an extrovert that never met a stranger and made friends instantly and often.
She was a devoted wife to her husband, Bud, for 57 years until his passing in 2023 and was always there to support her four children and their families.
She loved nature and was especially fond of West Michigan, the area she was born, raised, and lived her entire life in. The surrounding wildlife, sand dunes, beaches, and lighthouses were frequent targets of her camera lens. Sunsets were one of her favorite photo opportunities and her and Bud often made the trip to the lakeshore and the lighthouse to add to her ever growing collection of amazing photos.
She was a long time avid supporter of the Hart Public School system, cheering on her own children and everyone else’s at any and all sporting events, driving school bus for over 25 years, and painting the pirate logo wherever it was needed.
She drove dune scooters for Mac Woods Dune Rides for 19 years and continued her streak of friend making while in that role. The number of people who met and loved Weasie from their experience with her as their driver was high. She loved that job and it was tailor made for her big personality.
She will be greatly missed by her family and the friends she made near and far.
She is survived by her children; Christopher and Shelby (Wood) Olson, Tim and Keli (Engel) Olson, Barbara and Luke Albright, and Kathy and Scott Nason, her sisters Janice Brandel and Shirley Steinmetz, 8 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren.
A celebration of life open house will be held at a later date.
Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, King-Hart Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
