IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Merna L.
Nordine
February 16, 1923 – April 6, 2017
Merna Lunetta Nordine, age 94, of Ludington, passed away on April 6, 2017, at Oakview Medical Care Facility. She was born February 16, 1923, daughter of William and Audrey (Stubbs) Perry. Merna was a friendly girl and loved swimming at Stearns Park in the summer. She played violin in L. F. Peterson's Ludington High School Orchestra. Following graduation from LHS in 1941, Merna worked in the office of J.J. Newberry five and dime variety store in downtown Ludington. After World War II broke out, she joined her husband, Russell, in California and worked as a civilian employee of the US Navy. Upon his discharge, the Nordines returned to Ludington and Merna became a full-time mom. She dedicated her life to her family and to serving the Lord in her church. In the mid-fifties, Merna and Russ moved to Benton Harbor, MI, where they lived for over 30 years. Merna made many friends and volunteered at First Baptist Church of St. Joseph, in the schools and the community. She and Russell actively supported the work of Youth for Christ in Berrien County continuing long after their children were beyond teen years. Merna also enjoyed cooking and gardening, joining the Rose Club of Benton Harbor. In her later years, Merna often reminisced about her many years of teaching small children in Sunday School. All of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren experienced that loving, creative spirit whenever they visited the Nordine household. Merna is survived by her sons, Edwin (Wendy) Nordine of Royal Palm Beach, FL, and Dennis (Melody) Nordine of Ludington, MI; her daughter, Trudy (James) McCauley of Dallas, TX; six grandchildren, Katie N. Toro, Lee and William Nordine, Martha N. Snowbarger, Audrey M. Buritica and Andrew McCauley; twenty-one great-grandchildren; and her brother, William (Dianne) Perry Jr. of Ludington, MI, and numerous nephews and nieces. Merna is preceded in death by her parents, husband Russell in 1999 and sister Wilma Quick in 2015. The Funeral Service for Merna will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 18, 2017, at Cornerstone Baptist Church, 121 N. Nelson Road, Ludington, MI 49431 with Rev. Ryan White officiating. Interment will take place at Lakeview Cemetery in Ludington, MI. Visitation will be held from noon to 2 p.m. with lunch provided in the Fellowship Hall of the church. Merna had a heart for missions and was concerned about feeding the hungry. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Cornerstone Baptist Church Food Pantry.
