July 3, 1927 – October 20, 2021
Mildred Eleanor Pillen-Kott, 94, of Traverse City, passed at home, Wednesday, October 20,2021. She was born July 3, 1927 in Saginaw, Michigan, to Albert and Clarabelle (Randall) Myers.
Millie was married to the love of her life, Donald Pillen, from 1946 until his death in 1971. Together they had five children. She was married to Peter C. Kott from 1973 until his death in 1995. His children are Scott and Michael Kott, Chelene Judge, and Violet Pelch.
Millie retired in 1981 after 30 years of service to AC Spark Plug in Flint, Michigan. She was deeply loved by her family and so many friends. Family was the most important gift in her life. She always loved our family gatherings, especially at Christmas. Her interests later in life included doing jigsaw puzzles and reading mystery novels, but most of all playing cards with her "lady friends."
Surviving to honor her memory are: her children, Donna Simmons, Janene (Nick) Ortega, Jerry (Terry Gardy) Pillen; granddaughter, Amanda (Cassidy Shield) Schumacher; great-grandchildren Mykayla Werner, Noelle, Nathan, and Zachary Shield; several nieces and nephews; her "doggies," Murphy and Olive; and a few special people in her heart, who also called her Mom.
She was preceded in death by: husband, Donald Pillen; infant daughter, Cheryl Ann Pillen; son, Ronald Pillen; granddaughter, Rachel Leigh Werner; brother, Orval J. Myers; and sister, Ruth Summerfield.
A special acknowledgement to her physician, Dr. Natalie Okerson-Sparks, for her attentive treatment and for understanding her patient's needs. Also, special thanks to Brittany Pangonis for her compassionate home care.
Mom was an active member at Saint Michael Lutheran Church prior to her illness.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, Covell-Traverse City Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
