Mr. Neil Warren Bergsten, age 80, of Pentwater, passed away Monday, April 11, 2016, at Brookhaven Medical Care Facility in Muskegon. He was born April 7, 1936, in DeKalb, IL to Soender H. and Ruth E. (Hallaron) Bergsten. Neil graduated from high school and served in the United States Army. He married Gertrudis "Trudy" Spierdijk on August 17, 1985 in Spring Lake; they were married for thirty years. Neil was employed as an engineer for General Electric for thirty-eight years, retiring in 1993. He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Pentwater, Pentwater Service Club, Habitat for Humanity, church boards, a Boy Scout leader and proud both of his sons became Eagle Scouts. He enjoyed fishing, bow hunting, being outdoors, photography, taxidermy, wood working, and wood carving.
Neil is survived by his wife, Trudy Bergsten of Pentwater; two sons, Mark (Lisa) Bergsten of Wilmington, OH, Bret (Heather) Bergsten of Elnora, IN; two grandchildren, Alisha Bergsten, Neil Bergsten; three step-sons, Leonard (Elizabeth) VanHeest of Wexford, PA, Daniel VanHeest of Rothbury, Jack (Valerie) W. VanHeest; one step-daughter, Christina Weber; seven step-grandchildren, Dirk VanHeest, Case VanHeest, Louis VanHeest, Benjamin VanHeest, Alexis Weber, Cella VanHeest, Taya VanHeest, one brother, Ronald (Nelda) Bergsten of Whitewater, WI; and one sister-in-law, Joyce Bergsten of Peabody, MA. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Lenn Bergsten.
The Funeral Service for Mr. Bergsten will be Thursday, April 14, 2016, at 11:00 am at Centenary United Methodist Church in Pentwater with Rev. Clyde Miller and Pastor Melanie Young officiating. Interment will be in Pentwater Township Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 13, 2016 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at the King Funeral Home in Hart.
