Neill Richard Schmeichel, born August 7, 1931, passed from this earth on June 26th at 4:00 AM

in the morning.  By his side was his wife of 71 years, and his daughters.

Neill leaves behind the love of his life, Joan Marie Pierce, and a large family which was his pride

and joy.  In addition to his wife, Joan, Neill is survived by his beloved daughters Cynthia Joan,

Susan Irene, Karen Lee (Gregg Johnson), and Kristen Perie (Michael Rice); Neill was preceded

in death by his only son Scott Frederick (Paula Holmes).  In addition to his children, Neill is

survived by 16 beloved grandchildren and 12 beloved great-grandchildren.

Neill/Dad/Foym/Foyf was the rock of the family, providing an example of honesty, hard work,

strength, humor, joy, and dreams.  He loved camping vacations with his family, ski week with

grandkids, and floor playing with the grand and great-grandchildren.  Only 2 things came close

to his love of family — his profession and The University of Michigan Football.  He was

passionate about both.

Neill graduated from the University of Michigan with a bachelors and a masters degree in

Business.  He joined Ernst&Ernst in their Detroit office, picking up a CPA certification along the

way.  Neill's career successes included opening the Jackson, Michigan, office for Ernst&Ernst,

becoming a partner in the firm, and managing the Philadelphia office.  Upon his formal

retirement he became part owner of a group that ran several automobile parts companies in

Grand Rapids, Michigan.

He will be missed by all who knew him.

A gathering in his memory will take place at 11:00 AM, Friday, June 30, 2023 at Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, Covell-Elk Rapids Chapel,

312 Pine Street, Elk Rapids, Michigan 49629.
