Newell Ware Wright, age 93, passed away in Mandeville, LA, with family and friends by his side on March 14, 2019. He was born on January 5, 1926 in Chicago, IL, to the late Charles Shelton Wright and Jean Ware Wright. He was the loving father of Bob Wright (Audrey) and Wendy Hilbert (Jerry deceased) of Fort Wayne, IN; Nancy Reed (Jerry) of Mandeville; Barbara Duke (Steve) and Tom Wright (Jan) of Baton Rouge; and, Chuck Wright (Betsy) of Mason, OH. He was the beloved grandfather of Jody, Melissa, Ashley, Beau, Lindsay, Hunter, Haley, Heather, Hannah, Harrison and Will. He is great-grandfather to Graham, Owen, Lainey, Sutton, Landry, Thomas, Lily, Madison, Hadley and Harper. He is also survived by his brother, Willis Wright (Nancy) of Port Washington, NY.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Jean Patricia Brown Wright, and his sister, Carolyn Olson.
Memories of Pentwater/Bass Lake Michigan span 93 years and hundreds of friends and relatives throughout. Newell attended the University of Michigan earning degrees in engineering, MBA and law. This Eagle Scout, engineer and corporate lawyer served as a commissioned officer in the US Navy (veteran WWII Guam 1945, 1st Lieutenant JAG stationed Puerto Rico during Korea active 1951-1953). He worked at Central Soya, Bunge and retired with Cooper/T. Smith Stevedoring with numerous affiliations in marine transportation.
The family would like to express its appreciation to his caregivers, Passages Hospice and all the caring professionals of the Veterans Administration.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 AM, Saturday, May 25, 2019, Memorial Day weekend, at St. James Episcopal Church, in Pentwater, MI, with Father Sam Morrison officiating. Interment will follow in Pentwater Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pentwater Service Club at www.serviceclub.org or a charity of your choice.
