Mrs. Nora M. Krantz, age 100 of Mears, died Wednesday May 14, 2008. She was born July 7, 1907 in Hart Township to Weaver and Nellie (Martin) Gebhart. She married Carl E. Krantz on June 1, 1932 in the Mears Methodist Church and he preceded her in death on March 7, 1990. Mrs. Krantz was a member of the Class of 1926 of Hart High School. She also graduated from Oceana County Normal in 1928 and attended Western Michigan State College to become a teacher. Her entire teaching career was in the rural schools of Oceana County. She was a member of the Hart United Methodist Church, Oceana Retired School Teachers, Hart Homemakers Extension Club, and Oceana Historical Society. She was a former member of the Hart Women's Progressive Club and the Lakeside Farm Bureau. Along with her teaching young children in Oceana County, she and her husband owned and operated the Krantz Service Garage from 1934 until January 1975. She enjoyed outdoor life, especially hunting and fishing with her husband in the Upper Peninsula and Canada. Following the death of her husband, her son Richard took her hunting until she reached the age of 94. Mrs. Krantz is survived by her children, Sharon Florshinger of Hart and Richard (Mary) Krantz of Whitehall; 6 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; brother, John (Bea) Gebhart of Hart; sister in law, Nel Krantz of Davis, CA. In addition to her husband preceding her in death, she was also preceded by 2 brothers, George and Walter Gebhart. The Funeral Service for Mrs. Krantz will be held Monday, May 19, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. from the Hart United Methodist Church with Pastor Ben B. Lester officiating. Interment will be in the Mears Cemetery. Visitation Sunday 2-4 & 7-9 P.M. at the Tate-King Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be given to the Alzheimer's Association.
