Obituary

Orlan M. Wilber died peacefully Monday, October 18, 2021 at the Grand Traverse Pavilions, Traverse City, MI.  He is survived by his wife of 68 yrs. Joan (Berean) Wilber and their children, Cheryl R. McCurdy, Toledo, OH and David M. Wilber, Oceanside, CA.   Preceding him in death was their son, Mark H. Wilber.  He is also survived by his sister, Betty Wilber and his brother, Marvin V. (Gertrude) Wilber and their children.

Orlan was born January 25, 1927 on the family farm in Rochester, MI.  He was the eldest son of Howard Clayton Wilber and Veva Sophia McClure.  He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1951-1952 and was assigned to a M.A.S.H. Unit stationed in Japan during the Korean War.

Orlan was employed by National Twist Drill and Tool Co. as a Tool & Die Maker until his retirement.  In addition, he was an integral part of the family farm into adulthood and a gentleman farmer and woodsman throughout his lifetime.  Many relied on him to be the 'fix-it' man – anything from vehicles and farm machinery to small appliances.  He was also a skilled carpenter, tackling a variety of projects from home remodeling to antique furniture and clock restorations.

Orlan's enjoyment of the outdoors was known by all.  Whether cutting wood, mowing grass or just tinkering in the garden, he could generally be found outside with nature. He enjoyed the Traverse City area for many decades – spending countless hours in the quietness capturing the amazing scenery with his photography.

A private memorial service will be held in Rochester, MI at a later date.  Memorial contributions can be made to Munson Hospice House, 450 Brook St., Traverse City, MI.
