Dr. Paul Grala, age 71 of Traverse City, Michigan passed away on July 13, 2024. Paul was born in Newark, NJ and was raised with his family in Florham Park, NJ.

Paul attended Hanover Park High School, Holy Cross College where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa, and then as a doctoral student at New England College of Optometry in Boston, MA graduating with honors. Paul was a naval doctor in San Diego at Balboa Naval Hospital and then Division Chief of Optometry at the V.A. hospital in Dallas, Texas until his retirement.

A devoted and accomplished optometrist, Paul had a true passion for his work. Paul retired to Traverse City in 2015 where he enjoyed his friends, the inspiring scenery, and playing his guitars in his beloved retirement town. Paul loved playing his guitars and did so with a passion. As an accomplished musician, Paul formed many bands throughout his lifetime.

Pre-deceased by his father Edward and his mother Janet, Paul is survived by his beloved son Matthew of Dallas, TX and his sisters Bonnie Manion (Robert) of San Diego, CA and Lynn Griesmer (Steve) of Westfield, NJ, his nieces Elizabeth and Christina Griesmer, and nephew Peter Griesmer.

We will miss Paul's quick wit, great sense of humor, outgoing personality and astounding intelligence. Godspeed Paul.
