Obituary

Paul Clare Merrifield, 66, of Ludington, passed away unexpectedly April 10, 2023, at home. He was born August 16, 1956, in Hart, the son of George and Adamarie (Verschueren) Merrifield.

Paul graduated in the Class of 1974 from Hart High School where he played football.  He then served four years in US Air Force.  After being honorably discharged, Paul joined Local 876 out of Kent City and worked as a lineman for 36 years until his retirement from Kent Power in 2016.  In his spare time, Paul loved to kayak, refinish furniture, attend air shows, and watch his grandkids play sports.

Paul also loved his wife's cooking, going two-tracking, attending concerts, and hiking.

On January 13, 2006, Paul married Rhonda Lee Chapel, who survives him.  He is also survived by: his daughter, Heather (Brad) Beimers; his son, Michael (Kelly) Merrifield; step-daughter, Lacy (Jay) DeBoer; 9 grandchildren; his sister, Margaret (Ron) Wolverton; and his niece, Rachel (Andy) Martin.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be held Friday, April 14, 2023, from 4-6 PM, at Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, King-Hart Chapel, 2370 N. 72nd Avenue, Hart, followed by military honors performed under the auspices of the Oceana County Veterans.

In honor of Paul's love for dogs, the family requests in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions be made to your local animal shelter.
