Paul Alvin Rusch, master carpenter, self-appointed genius, professional
napper,
and collector of "fine" treasures. Left behind a legacy of love, honesty and a million Copenhagen tins, seriously...
Paul grew up with five sisters, not a moment of silence and limited time in the bathroom. His love for his sisters never ceased and molded him into a very protective and loving father.
Paul met his soulmate, Sue, at the Forest Home Reformed Church where he was known for making paper airplanes out of his Sunday school work. He won her heart by rubbing her face in the snow while in the church parking lot and stealing a kiss while she was on a date with another. Theirs was a love story unlike any other and they married October 23, 1980. Through thick and thin, better, or worse, in sickness and in health were not just vows but everyday hurdles they tackled together. Their love produced three children: Samantha,
Allen,
and Andrea. You can see Paul in each one of them. Samantha has his eyes, Allen has his loyalty, and Andrea has his sense of humor.
Paul was full of fun, mischief, and beer. He told you the truth even when you did not want to hear it. He believed you did what was right no matter what it cost you. He was known for his entertaining stories that he loved to repeat often. Paul had a wildly inappropriate sense of humor and was adored by many.
If it had a motor, he could fix it. If it was something no one else wanted, he kept it. If you were
uptight
and no fun, he
probably offended
you and enjoyed it.
His regrets were few and included the time he urinated after handling and eating a ghost pepper.
He will be sorely missed and is survived by his Wife of 41 years, Sue Rusch; sisters, Charlene Howard, Donna Lee, Debby Rubley,
Rayora
Spray, and DeeDee Rusch: children, Samantha Bennett, Allen Rusch, and Andrea Root: grandchildren, Marcella, Kaden, Madilyn, Emmy, Sarah, Avi, and Orren.
A small, private memorial will be held for family members and remarkably close friends. If that does not include you, do not worry, we will have a big party this summer full of debauchery,
alcohol,
and poor choices.
Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, Covell-Traverse City Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
