Obituary

Phillip Mitchell Battice, 69, of Shelby, passed away Thursday, December 10, 2020. He was born March 3, 1951, in Hart, the son of Mitchell and Mamie (Bailey) Battice.

Phil was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, and had been stationed in Holland, Netherlands, Fort Hood in Texas, and Fort Huachuca in Arizona. He lived and traveled between Michigan, Arizona, and Texas for most of his life.

Phil was a member of the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians. He enjoyed traveling, muscle cars, and going to the casino. He was affectionately known locally as "Uncle Phil." Phil was always smiling and loved to make everyone laugh.

Phil is survived by: his daughters, Lavonne "Luvy" Conroy and Lauree Battice, and their mother, Lily Battice; grandchildren, Damien Conroy, Kristofer Conroy, and Taylor Conroy, and Kayla Jacobson and Mitchell Jacobson, and their father, Karl Jacobson; great-grandchildren, Vivian and Carter; siblings, Helen Scripter, Emily Smith, Frances "Ponce" Zamborowski, Clarence (Connie) Battice, Roma Battice, and Alice Battice; and many nieces and nephews. Phil is also survived by his dogs, Drake and Peanut, who where his faithful companions and sidekicks.

Phil was preceded in death by: his parents; sisters, Gail Melendrez and Mary (Miguel) Meza; brothers-in-law, Leon Smith and Charles Zamborowski; and niece, Yolanda (Randy) Cole.

Graveside services will be conducted at 1:30 PM, Saturday, May 29, 2021, at St. Joseph Indian Cemetery in Elbridge Township.

Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, King-Hart Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
