IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Phillip
Smith
August 26, 1937 – March 7, 2018
Phillip N. Smith, age 80, passed away at home in Hart on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 following a short battle with cancer. Phil was born August 26, 1937 in Muskegon to Nicholas and Glenowyn (Sutherlund) Smith and graduated from Muskegon Catholic Central High School in 1956.
Phil married his high school sweetheart, Jeanne (Picard) on February 7, 1959. They enjoyed drag racing, snowmobiling, traveling, spending time with their family and golfing in the winter where they resided in Homosassa, Florida.
Phil was truly a man of many talents – he designed and built what was previously known as Golden Golf in Mears, MI. He was the family handy-man and mechanic; he spent most days at his son's car lot tinkering around. There wasn't anything he couldn't fix!
He will be remembered for his kind heart, his incessant whistling and willingness to provide philosophical advice to anyone who would join him for a cup of coffee. He was honest, humble, generous and hardworking – characteristics that were coveted by all who knew him. And he was known by everyone!
Phil was a lifetime member at West Citrus Elks, Crystal River Moose, the NRA, Oceana Eagles and the North American Hunt Club.
Phil is survived by: his wife of 59 years, Jeanne; three brothers, Nicholas of San Francisco, Michael of Muskegon and Gerald of Australia; his son, David (Lisbeth) Smith; daughters, Penelope Thaler and Pamela Pickard; beloved grandchildren, Max Adam (Christina) Saunders, Erin (Gary) Stark, Carly (Joe) Moore and Drew Smith; and his treasured great-grandchildren, Annabelle, Brennen and Brady Stark, Sullivan Moore and Weston Saunders.
He was preceded in death by: his brother, David Smith; and sons-in-law, Ed Thaler and Ron Pickard.
A celebration of Phil's life will be held Saturday, April 7, 2018 from 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM followed by memorial services at 1:30 PM at Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service-King-Hart Chapel, 2370 N. 72 nd Avenue, Hart, MI, 49420.
