Mrs. Phyllis Marie Flynn, age 94, of Hart, passed away Saturday, September 24, 2011. She was born October 29, 1916, in Hart to Lee and Christina (Iteen) Smith. She started college in 1934 at the age of 17, receiving her MA from Central State Teacher's College, now Central Michigan University. She taught in the Hart Public School system until her retirement in 1983. She married John Matthew Flynn at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Elbridge on December 26, 1940. He preceded her in death January 12, 1992. She was a member of St. Gregory Catholic Church.
Mrs. Flynn is survived by her grandchildren, John Matthew (Amber) Flynn III of Fruitport, Justin Lee (Janelle) Flynn of Montague, Amanda Lynn Flynn of Montague, Heather Colista (Chris) Gilmer of Austin, MN, and Angelique Marie Flynn of Austin, MN; her step-granddaughter, Victoria Rose (Greg) Tolan of Whitehall; her daughter-in-law, Rosemarie Flynn of Pentwater; and 9 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband and her son, John M. Flynn, Jr.
The Mass of the Resurrection for Mrs. Flynn will be offered Thursday, September 29, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Gregory Catholic Church with Fr. Thomas Bolster presiding. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Hart Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the John M. Flynn, Jr. Scholarship Fund at Montague High School.
