IN LOVING MEMORY OF
R. Douglas
Hanna
May 14, 1945 – May 3, 2019
R. Douglas Hanna, 73, of Montague, passed away Friday, May 3, 2019, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born May 14, 1945, the son of W. Ralph and Lucille (Sheldon) Hanna in Flint, MI. Doug graduated from Flint Southwestern High School and received his Bachelor and Master's degrees from Eastern Michigan University. He was a teacher of industrial arts at Montague High School for 26 years where he coached golf, baseball, wrestling, football, and started the girls softball team. After coaching, he spent many years as a football official. Doug spent countless hours in his woodshop making gifts for family and friends; creating items he donated to silent auctions for various nonprofits. In the summer he was either golfing or on his pontoon boat touring White Lake enjoying time with his family and friends.
Doug was a Vietnam veteran serving with the Army 25th Infantry Division B Troop 3rd Squadron 4th Cavalry and was awarded two bronze stars and two purple hearts for his service.
Doug is survived by his wife, Jane; children, Jeff (Beth) Hanna of Montague, MI, and Katie (Steve) Clark of Grandville, MI; grandchildren, Megan Hanna, Andrew Hanna, Ellie Clark, and Anna Clark; sister, Sue (Ted) Hunter of Montague; and brother, Gary Hanna of Green Bay, Wisconsin; and many loved nieces and nephews.
The family is celebrating Doug's life the way he wanted: a casual day at the lake on Saturday, May 25, at the Hanna house, 5575 McFall Circle, Montague, from 1pm - 4pm. In case of rain, the celebration will move to Pub 111, 111 W Colby St, Whitehall. In lieu of flowers, Doug wants memorial contributions made to JDRF at bit.ly/JDRF_DougHanna or the U of M Rogel Cancer Center Prostate Cancer Program at victors.us/doughanna
Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, White Lake Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
