Obituary

Ramona Lou (Cholas) Nelson, known to all as Mona, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, September 4th, 2025. She was preceded in death by her husband, A. Richard (Dick) Nelson, sisters Gloria Markel and Elenor Hile, Son-in-law, Walter Field, Step-son Paul Briegel and granddaughter Juliana. She is survived by her Son Gary (Rita) Nelson, Daughter Gwyn(Walter) Field, Son Greg (Susie) Nelson, many grandchildren, and great grandchildren that she loved dearly.

Mona was an extraordinary woman who owned and operated her own very successful hair salons in both Bay City, Michigan and Traverse City, Michigan. She was also an avid volunteer with Child and Family Services of Northwestern Michigan, Big Brother/Big Sister and The Music House. She also was known for her aprons which she designed, sewed and gave away thousands of aprons to anyone who needed or
wanted them. Her aprons have made their way all over the world. She was an avid golfer, skier, baker and seamstress.

She loved people and always taught us that all people are equal, and we are not better than anyone else. She was always telling us to treat everyone the way we would want to be treated.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Child and Family Services of Northwestern Michigan cfsnwmi.org/donate or Big Brother/Big Sister of Northwestern Michigan.

Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, Covell-Traverse City Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
