Obituary

Randall Lee Vyverberg, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on the morning of January 16th, 2024, at the age of 62. He had fought a very aggressive form of leukemia for a year and a half before being called home to Jesus. He was born in Lansing on September 22nd, 1961 as the only child of the late Marilyn Webster (formerly Robb) and the late Frank Vyverberg.

Randy was a family-man and treated everyone like family. He had a heart for people, making each feel special, loved, and encouraged. He was a hard worker and loved to take care of people. He was a provider and protector to the ones he loved, especially his wife and kids.

As a young adult he started working in the restaurant industry. He met Norma, his sweetheart, while working together at Grand Traverse Resort. He knew from the beginning that she was special and quickly won her over with his adoration and quick wit. They were married in 1988 and had their first child, William, two years later.

In 1991 the young couple joined Living Hope Church and embedded themselves deeply in the community there. He enjoyed the quality time he got to spend with friends. Many of his closest friends he met at church and were there for him throughout his life. Joking around and being a "pot stirrer" brought Randy a lot of joy. He was heavily involved in serving; missions being especially important to him.

They had their second child Benjamin in 1993, and their third child Rebecca in 1997. They had ambition, and when the opportunity came they purchased their own restaurant. Randy's Diner was opened in 1997. For the past 26 years the diner has been a beloved gathering place in the community. Randy's continues to be a family run business, continuing the tradition that Randy started.

Randy is survived by his wife, Norma Vyverberg, three children, William Vyverberg, Benjamin (Dorothy) Vyverberg, Rebecca (Matthew) Peplinski, as well as three grandchildren, Eila, Kai and Mae, whom he was extremely fond of. He is preceded in death by his parents, Marilyn Webster (Robb), and Frank Vyverberg.

The memorial will be held at Living Hope Church on January 27th at 1 pm, visitation starts at 12 pm. In lieu of flowers, at the funeral service there will be a drop-box accepting donations to the Traverse Life Center (https://www.traverselifecenter.org/about.php).

Beacon Cremation and Funeral Service, Covell-Traverse City Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
