Raymond Edward Purvis, 93, of Traverse City, died Wednesday, November 24, 2021, at home. He was born June 17, 1928, in Traverse City, the son of Edward and Alice (Eckert) Purvis.
Ray was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He worked at Ideal Dairy, Maxbauer's, Traverse City Iron Works, Purvis Brothers (Jackson Steel), TCAPS, and, Christ the King Catholic Church.
Ray was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church. He enjoyed square dancing with his wife. He had a passion of horses and was a member of the Grand Traverse Mounted Patrol. He loved horseback riding, giving old fashioned sleighrides, and riding across the state with fellow members of the Michigan Trail Riders Association.
Ray is survived by: his daughters, Barb Rogusta, Geri (Rick) Worm, and Janet (Laurie) Purvis; grandchildren, David Rogusta Jr., Tracy (Kelly) Potter, Jennifer "Jared" Milarch, Ricky (Jessica) Worm Jr., Shawn (Erica) Barnes, Sarah Lynn Barnes, Christina Barnes, and Logan Barnes; 13 great-grandchildren; siblings, Roy Purvis and Esther Hoag; special brother-in-law, Fred Rosenburg; and niece, Deb Poncar.
On August 25, 1948, Ray married his high school sweetheart, Bethel "Pink" Rosenburg who preceded him in death on December 21, 2020. He was also preceded in death by: his parents; son-in-law, David Rogusta; and sister, Sally Anderson.
Memorial services for Ray and Pink Purvis will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Saturday, December 4, 2021, at Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, Covell-Traverse City Chapel, with Deacon Rene Hoenscheid officiating.
Ray and Pink's daughters wish to acknowledge Deacon Rene for being a source of support and comfort to their parents, especially to Ray in the last year of his life.
Memorial contributions may be made to Christ the King Catholic Church.
