Mr. Raymond T. Syrek, age 88, of Ludington passed away Tuesday, March 29, 2016. He was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on December 12, 1927 to Paul and Joanna (Groters) Syrek. He married the former Delores Gigowski in Grand Rapids on September 3, 1949. Mr. Syrek served his country in the US Army, during the Occupation of Japan. He was employed by Canteen Service for over 40 years working his way up into management, until his retirement in 1988. Raymond was a member of St. Simon Catholic Church.

Raymond loved the out of doors enjoying fishing, hunting and camping. He also enjoyed woodworking and jigsaw puzzles. His leisure time was spent at the cottage at Long Lake in Walhalla with Delores and the family.

Raymond is survived by his wife of 66 years, Delores Syrek of Ludington; two daughters, Nancy (John) Heroux of Flushing, MI and Patty (Jim) McAuliffe of Goodrich, MI; daughter in law, Sue Syrek of Jackson, MI; two sons, Rick (Sue) Syrek of Hesperia and Bill (Cindy) Syrek of Hart; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; brother, Paul Syrek of Grand Rapids; sister, Dolores Poniatowski of Grand Rapids; several nieces and nephews. Raymond was preceded in death by his parents; son, James Syrek; sisters, Esther Smith and Betty Swift.

The Mass of the Resurrection for Mr. Syrek will be offered Friday, April 1, 2016 at 11:00 AM from St. Simon Catholic Church with Fr. Philip Sliwinski presiding. Interment will be in the Pere Marquette Catholic Cemetery. An hour of visitation will be held on Friday, beginning at 10:00 AM, prior to the Mass at St. Simon Catholic Church.
