Obituary

Raymond "Ray" Matthew Weber, 103, of Traverse City, died Sunday, December 1, 2024, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.  He was born May 20, 1921, in Hannah, the son of Jacob and Anna (Zenner) Weber.

Ray is survived by: his daughters, Cindi (Tom) Pobuda of Traverse City and Jeanine Weber of Grand Rapids; grandchildren, Brandon (Kristen) Plamondon, Bryan (Sammy) Plamondon, Rebecca (Kody) Browe, Joseph (Jennifer) Pobuda, and Sarah Pobuda; great-grandchildren, Ty, Ella, Logan, Kendal, Mylia, RaeAnne, Kaydence, Mikaylah, Mason, Benji, Reese, Carter, and Parker; sister, Sister Mary Aquinas Weber; sisters-in-law, Barbara Weber and Mary Ellen Weber; and brother-in-law, Albert Fasel.

On May 13, 1950, Ray married Bernadine Fasel who preceded him in death in 2001.  He was also preceded in death by: siblings, Vince, Ambrose, Clarence, Daniel, Jay, Paul, Marge, Carl, and Jack.

Ray completed school through the eighth grade and then left school to work on the family farm.  Education was important to him, so he returned to school to complete his GED in 2008.

Ray moved to Detroit in search of better opportunities.  After Pearl Harbor he enlisted in the Army and served in the 554th Army Corp of Engineers.  He was stationed throughout Europe where his unit constructed pontoon bridges.

He returned home in 1945, working the majority of his career at Cone Drive Gear.  After retirement, Ray was a school bus driver and then drove cars for Bill Marsh.  He also volunteered at the Cancer Center.

Ray enjoyed spending time with family and friends.  He always took care of the people he loved.  His hobbies included working in his garden, watching the Tigers and Lions, and meeting his friends at Big Boy for breakfast.  He enjoyed wintering in Florida, making many new friends at Pioneer Creek.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 PM, Thursday, December 5, 2024, at St. Mary of Hannah Catholic Church, 2912 West M-113, Kingsley, Michigan 49649, with Father Joseph Muszkiewicz celebrant.  Interment will take place in St. Mary of Hannah Catholic Cemetery in the spring.  Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM, Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, 200 N. Brownson Avenue, Kingsley, Michigan 49649; the Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 PM.  Visitation will also be held from 11:00 AM until time of Mass on Thursday at the church.

Memorials may be given in Ray's name to the Father Fred Foundation or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
