IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Richard Dean
Brovont
September 1, 1939 – February 11, 2025
Richard Dean Brovont, 85, passed away February 11, 2025, after a long battle with cancer, surrounded by his family. He was the son of Dean Brovont and Grace Lee Brovont. Dick graduated from Traverse City Central in 1957. He married his wife of 66 years, Sue Ann (Haase) Brovont on December 20, 1959, at Central Methodist Church in Traverse City.
Dick graduated from Michigan State University where he earned his bachelor's degree in education. He taught at Colt Elementary School in the Waverly School District for 31 years. He loved coaching basketball and football and was especially honored to have coached his son, Toby. Dick was an avid MSU fan and loved all things Spartan. One of his joys was planning parties for his family and friends on his patio. He lined his office from floor to ceiling with picture boards of all his family and friends. Dick was a very unique personality who always tried to personalize his relationships with his students, family and friends. He was a generous supporter of the Traverse City Community. Some of his best years were spent in his boat on Grand Traverse Bay teaching his children to waterski, enjoying the winter months in Green Valley, Arizona, and traveling with his friends and family.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Richard Dean, and his sister, Brenda. He is survived by his wife, daughter Shelly (Jeff) Albert, son, Robert (Toby) Brovont, and grandchildren Rob (Karman) Simon, Alexa (Brian) Anton, Madison Albert, Bailey Dean Brovont, and Briana Brovont as well as great granddaughter Evie Anton.
Dick has been cremated as per his wishes. He will be laid to rest in Sunfield Cemetery near the farm where his family and children raised strawberries for over 20 years. No services are planned until the summer when there will be a family gathering.
We want to thank Munson Home Health Hospice for the wonderful, caring nurses who saw to his comfort during his final days.
In lieu of flowers, please make expressions of sympathy in Richard's name to Munson Home Health Hospice.
Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, Covell-Traverse City Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
