Richard John Burfiend, 86, of Elk Rapids, Michigan, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, February 24, 2022. Richard was a simple man who loved his family, a good campfire, and had a passion for watching dirt track racing.

He was a veteran having served SIX years in the United States Air Force. He also worked for many years at Zupin Oil Company and later in life drove bus for the Elk Rapids School System.

Richard was preceded in death by: his father Albert (Al) Burfiend; his mother, Emily Shisler; his wife, Alice, whom he tenderly cared for after a car accident left her paralyzed for many years; his brother, Alan (Lou) Burfiend of Florida; and his stepson, Joe Corpe.

Richard is survived by: his first, wife Marilyn; and his sons, Richard (Maureen), Timothy (Beth), Jonathan, Terry (Maria), and Troy Burfiend. He is also survived by: his daughter, Tanja Burfiend; and his brother, Loren (Larry) Burfiend and family. His surviving stepchildren are: Mark, Anna, Dean, Todd, and Gary. His grandchildren: Ryan, Meghan, Dustin, Amanda, Kieran, Tristan, Jazmine, and Leo. Great-grandchildren: Nathaniel Hart, John Finnegan, Vivien Elaine, and Sabrina Jade.

A celebration of life gathering is being planned for this summer and will be announced at a later date.

A special thank you to Troy, Anna, and in-home aide, Jenny King, for caring for Richard in his last few years.
