Mr. Richard L. Derks, age 79 of Walkerville, Michigan passed away Tuesday, August 24, 2010 in Hart. He was born April 3, 1931 in Fremont, Michigan to Herman and Jeanette (Nieboer) Derks. He married Ruby M. Gordon March 4, 1955 in Fremont.

Rich served with the Marine Corps in Korea. Following his military service he worked as a truck driver, retiring from Bob Wiedman Forest Products in 1993. He was affiliated with the Walkerville United Methodist Church and active in the Hart V.F.W. Post # 1329.

Mr. Derks is survived by his wife, Ruby Derks of Walkerville; two daughters, Rocelle (Dean) McClellan of Ludington and Renee (Kevin) DuShane of Marne; three grandsons, Chad Wright (fiance' Melissa Berman) of Grand Rapids, Jeffrey DuShane and Michael DuShane both of Marne; and two great-grandchildren, Aidan and Leland. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Robin Lynn Derks and two brothers, Elwin and Bernard Derks.

A memorial service for Mr. Derks will be held Saturday, September 4, 2010 at 1:00 p.m., at Walkerville United Methodist Church with Pastor Ron Worley officiating. Visitation will be Friday, 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8 pm at King Funeral Home in Hart. Those wishing to leave a lasting memorial are asked to consider Hospice of Michigan.
