Mr. Richard E. "Dick" Howe (also known as "The Indian"), age 81, of Hart, died peacefully Saturday, April 21, 2012. He was born February 5, 1931, in Custer to Howard and Cecilia (Cossette) Howe. He married the former June Collard on April 7, 1956, at St. Gregory's Catholic Church in Hart. He was employed at Lakeway/Bofors Chemical Company and also worked as a butcher for Smith's Hart Meat Co. and for Sanders in Custer. Dick was a member of St. Gregory's Catholic Church, American Legion Post 234, Hart VFW Post 1329, and the Benona Shores Golf Club, where he once shot a hole in one on #2. He served in the Marine Corps during the Korean War. Dick loved his family and enjoyed deer hunting and golf. He also followed University of Michigan football, Duke University basketball, Chicago Cubs baseball, and Chicago Blackhawk's hockey.

Dick is survived by his wife, June Howe; one son, Richard E. "Rick" Howe, Jr. of Chicago; three daughters, Kimberly "Kim" (David) Edwards of Troy, Lisa (Scott) Poniatowski of Kentwood, and Tracie (Mark) McKeiver of Kentwood; one brother, Jim Howe of Custer, and five grandchildren, Robert McDonald, Katie McKeiver, Kyle Poniatowski, Tony McKeiver, and Jenny McKeiver. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Duane Howe.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Howe will be offered Thursday, April 26, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Gregory's Catholic Church in Hart with Father Thomas Bolster presiding. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the King Funeral Home. Interment will be in Hart Cemetery. The family requests that any memorials be directed to St. Gregory's Catholic Church Food Pantry or to the Alzheimer's Foundation.
