Richard "Rick" Ross Leitz, 74, of Elk Rapids, died Sunday, January 29, 2023.
Rick was born May 15, 1948, in Brighton, the son of Harold and Margaret (Ludwig) Leitz. Rick graduated from Brighton High School, Class of 1966. He then went to Central Michigan University and graduated with a Business Management degree in 1969 and then furthered his education at Cleary College, also in 1969.
Rick enlisted in the US Air Force in 1969. He was an honor graduate from the USAF Command Level Administration Technical Training Center, SAC Command. During his time in the Air Force he was assigned to the 21 st Air Force Headquarters as a General's Aide and Management Specialist and was honorably discharged in 1973 obtaining the rank of E-5 SSGT. Rick served during the Vietnam Era.
Rick, upon his release from the Air Force, began his career in the automotive industry. He was an Engineer for several companies during his career and finished his career with Tower Automotive.
Rick was a Master Woodworker. He was Fly Fisherman enthusiast, tying his own flies and enjoyed his time fishing many rivers and streams.
Rick is survived by: his loving wife, Marilyn (Lougheed); daughter, Kimberly (Rob) Leitz; grandson, Jackson Ross McCauley; sister, Pat (Jerry) French; two dear aunts, Helen Leitz and Norma Leitz Pless; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He also leaves behind his cherished friends, Bruce Evanson, Jim Sellman, Rob Forster, and Tom Chranowski; and his faithful companions, Dude, Dawson, and ZZ Top, who meet him as he crossed over the bridge.
Services will be held at a later date.
Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, Covell-Elk Rapids Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
