Mr. Richard Louis Sargent, age 93, passed away suddenly Wednesday, June 26, 2013, at his Ludington home. Born February 1, 1920, in Long Lake, Wisconsin to Robert Luther and Charlotte Ada (Tessier) Sargent, he grew up on Lake Michigan near Nahma, Michigan. Richard led an interesting life. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps from age 17-20; was part of the famous Cole Brothers Circus for a time; and also worked as a commercial fisherman on Lake Michigan. Later he earned the reputation of the finest overhead crane operator at Campbell, Wyant, and Cannon foundries in Muskegon. He married Margaret Lindefield of Hart on February 13, 1943, in Muskegon. The couple raised their children in the Nahma area and eventually settled in Ludington. Margaret passed away March 28, 1994. The widower lived his final nineteen years in the same home he created there with his beloved wife thirty-nine years ago. Mr. Sargent was a devout Christian who loved his Lord Jesus deeply.
Richard is survived by his daughter, Coleen (Bill) Sloan of Mississippi; sons Edward (Nancy) Sargent and Richard (Carol) Sargent, both of Washington; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; several siblings; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and three daughters, Madeline Rose, Margaret, and Jeanette.
The Funeral Service for Mr. Sargent will be Friday, July 5, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. at King Funeral Home in Hart with Rev. Ken Vanderlaan officiating. Interment will be in Hart Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at King Funeral Home.
