Mr. Richard K. Scofield, age 80 of Hart, formerly of Norton Shores, died Monday, March 8, 2010. He was born in Hart on March 28, 1929 to Clarence M. and Gladys I. (Brelsford) Scofield. Mr. Scofield graduated from Hart High School in 1947 and furthered his education obtaining his B.S. Degree from Michigan State University in 1954. On August 26, 1950 in Hart, he married Dorothy Beam. He founded Scofield Science Services in 1983. Previously he had been a traveling science teacher for M.S.U. and the National Science Foundation. Mr. Scofield was a former science and mathematics teacher for the Ludington and Mona Shores Public Schools. He served his country in the US Army Ordinance Corp from 1954-1956. Richard was a Past President of the Muskegon Bowmen's Club and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Muskegon. Richard cherished most his family and friends and they were always near and dear to his heart. He was passionate about everything outdoors including hunting, fishing, camping, searching for morel mushrooms in the spring time. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Dorothy Scofield of Hart; their children, Brent (Joan) Scofield of Fruitport and Denise (Jim) Jones of San Diego, CA; 5 grandchildren, Hanna Scofield, Nicholas Scofield, Brandon Greer, Kristen Greer, Erik Jones; 2 great grandchildren, Sophia and Julius; 1 sister, Jeannette Bruce of Grand Rapids; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Bruce Scofield and Herbert Scofield, 1 sister, Vivian Dutton. The Funeral Service for Mr. Scofield will be held Saturday, March 13, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. from the First Presbyterian Church in Muskegon with Dr. Fred R. Halde officiating. Interment will be in the Mears Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 6-8 P.M. at the Tate-King Funeral Home in Hart and Saturday, one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be given to First Presbyterian Church Christian Education Committee or Harbor Hospice.
