Richard Thomas "Tom" Simmon age 92, of Ludington, passed away on December 10, 2015. He was born April 4, 1923 in Mancelona, MI son of Carl and Blanche (Davenport) Simmon. Soon after Tom was born, his family moved to the Lansing area. After he graduated from Everett High School, Tom enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving on a destroyer escort in the Mediterranean. In 1955 he moved to Mason County where he owned and operated Simmon's Grocery for 22 years. He retired from Consumers Power in 1985 and was a member of the American Legion, Edwin H. Ewing Post 76 for 50 years where he served in many capacities. He married Mary Bonek Widdis on March 31, 1967 and she survives him. He is also survived by his daughter, Susan (Larry) Lange; son, Alex (Maureen) Simmon; his step-children, Marcia (Dale) Bonnville, Dr. Cheryl (Dr. Robert Jarvis) Widdis, Shelley Kocher and James (Kristi) Widdis; twelve grandchildren, four great-grandsons and Baxter. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Carl; sisters, Jane, Blanche Irene, and Marion; his step-son, William Widdis and step-grandson, Tyler Ellwood. A Funeral Service for Tom will be held on Monday, December 14, 2015 at 12:00 noon at King Funeral Home, 301 N. Jebavy Dr., Ludington, MI with the American Legion Post 76 officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 - 12:00 at the funeral home. Final interment will take place at Summit Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Legion, Edwin H.
