Mr. Richard L. Streit, age 83, of Mears, passed away Monday, March 25, 2013. He was born June 14, 1929, in Hesperia to Walter and Violet (Newberry) Streit. After graduating from Hart High School in the class of 1949, he served in the US Army as military police. He was employed at Northwest Airlines as a crew chief mechanic for thirty-eight years, until his retirement in 1991. Richard married Gail Wittman on November 3, 1962, in Washington Mills, New York, and they celebrated their fiftieth anniversary last fall. Richard was a gifted carpenter and mechanic who loved children and enjoyed hunting, fishing and reading. He was a member of Hart Congregational United Church of Christ.

Richard is survived by his wife, Gail Streit; three daughters, Carolyn (Joey) Oakley of Millbrook, Alabama, Angela (Ray) Little of Hartland, Michigan, and Peggy Sue (Chris) Rost of Canton, Michigan; one son, Richard P. (Carol) Streit of Tecumseh, Michigan; five grandchildren, Tina Worley, Jason Worley, Jennifer Simmons, Christa Genovese, and Alyssa Genovese; three great-grandchildren, Noah Worley, Triston Worley, and Hailey Kraus; one sister, Darlene (Robert) Estes of Ypsilanti; his aunt, Helen Newberry of Hesperia; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Glenn Streit; and two sisters, Betty Wolverton and Patti Hardy.

The Funeral Service for Mr. Streit will be held Saturday, March 30, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at Hart Congregational United Church of Christ with Pastor Lorraine Boucon officiating. Interment will be in Hart Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the King Funeral Home.
