July 9, 1942 – February 10, 2021
Richard Alan Yankee passed away on February 10, 2021 after a valiant long battle with Multiple Myeloma, with his family by his side. He was 78 years old. Dick was born on July 9, 1942 in Cadillac, Michigan to Richard Joseph and Virginia Yankee. He graduated in 1961 from Cadillac High School. Dick joined the US Navy in 1965 and served in Vietnam where he served on the ship, Mt. McKinley. In 1969, Dick married Mary Ellen and became an instant father to 4 young children. Dick and Mary soon welcomed 2 more daughters, Michelle and Amanda. Dick worked most of his life at Burwood Products until their closing. He retired from Century Sun, Inc. After Mary passed in 2008, Dick continued to enjoy lake life, Ham Radios, computers, and his favorite; Stereos. Dick was passionate about electronics and could talk for hours about them. In his later years, Dick got great joy in sharing his noon meals with friends at Community luncheons around Traverse City. Dick is survived by his four siblings, Cheryl Samson of Texas, Dennis of South Carolina, Susan Montague of Cadillac, Mi, Brent of Caledonia, MI. He is also survived by his children; Scott Shockney of Washington, Amy (Jorell) Linton of Alabama, Holly (Dave) Pahl of Buckley, Mi, Ellen Thiel of Ypsilanti, MI, Michelle(Keith) Redder of Thompsonville, MI, and Amanda Loeffler of Traverse City, MI, and Son in Law, Don Loeffler, Twelve Grandchildren, 9 Great Grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Dick was preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife in 2008. Services will be Friday February 19 with a visitation from 1-2 and the Service at 2pm at Covell Funeral Home in Traverse City, MI. Memorial Contributions can be made to Salvation Army Meals Program or Kandu Island in memory of Dick. The family would like to thank the staff at Curry House in Cadillac, MI and Dr. Riddle and his staff at the Cowell Cancer Center for the great care given to Richard.
