Richard Edward
Young Jr
Aug 12, 1963 — Jul 19, 2026
Richard Edward Young Jr. passed away peacefully on July 19, 2026. He was born August 12, 1963, in Ionia, Michigan, the son of Richard Sr. and Marilyn (Hinds) Young.
Richard lived life in search of adventure, whether big or small. Alongside his beloved late wife, Sherry Knapp-Young, he shared a love of gambling, taking countless trips to local casinos and traveling to both Las Vegas and Reno to test their luck.
After Sherry's passing, Richard found happiness in life's simpler pleasures. He treasured spending time with his family and sought out little adventures wherever he could find them. An avid metal detectorist and magnet fisher, Richard never passed up an opportunity to search for hidden treasures. He could often be found collecting cans along the roadside or adding another unique find to one of his many collections. Richard had a gift for finding joy in the ordinary. He loved taking long drives, staying busy, and, above all else, spending time surrounded by the peace and beauty of nature.
Richard will be lovingly remembered by his daughters, Sara (Nick) Wenger and Kristy (Marcus) Kirchen; his grandchildren, Samantha (Hunter) Holman, Hayden Enright, and Jaxxon, Kenidee, Richie, and Ehren Wenger, and Kinsley Kirchen; his special friend, Jay Larson; as well as many siblings, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and the many friends he made throughout the Montague community.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sherry Knapp-Young; his mother, Marilyn Hinds; his great-granddaughter, Veda Holman; several siblings; and other beloved extended family members.
Richard's adventurous spirit, appreciation for the simple things in life, and the friendships he built along the way will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
