Robert A. "Bob" Carr III, 71, of Newfield Township, passed away in the presence of his children on February 22, 2021, at the Leila and Cyrus Poppen Hospice Residence in Muskegon, after a battle with pancreatic cancer. Bob was born May 13, 1949, in Muskegon, to Robert Jr. and Virginia (Barber) Carr.
Bob spent most of his life in Muskegon, working variously as a handyman, landlord, and book seller at his shop, Bob Carr's Book Trader. A decade ago, he relocated to Newfield Township, where he was able to grow a large garden, split his own logs to heat his home, and live self-sufficiently. He served for several years as a member of the Oceana County Road Commission and was active in local and county administration and Republican politics.
Bob is survived by: his son and daughter and their spouses, Robert Carr and David Parkes of Cambridge, MA, and Liz and Rob Sypien of Muskegon; his grandchildren, Bryar and Sawyer Sypien; and also by his sister, Barbara Frey of Hamburg, NJ.
Private services will be conducted at Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, King-Hart Chapel.
Donations may be sent to Hospice of Michigan ( hom.org ) and Harbor Hospice ( harborhospicemi.org ).
