Obituary

Robert James Miller, 84, passed away at home March 4, 2022.

Bob was born June 26, 1937 to Grace Wormersley (Olofson) and Donald Miller in Grosse Pointe, Michigan. He was raised in Manton, Michigan with his brothers William and James.

Bob was married to Marilyn Bever from 1959 until her death in 2006. They raised two daughters, Diana and Ann.

He received an associate degree from Northwestern Michigan College — where he played forward on the men's basketball team — and a bachelor's degree from Western Michigan University.

Bob and his family lived in Montague where he taught school for 32 years. He loved the game of golf and coached it, as well as other sports, at Montague High School.

He savored a sunny day on the Manistee River fishing for trout.

A lover of music, especially folk and blues, he played his guitar for family and friends often.

He married Jean Scarbrough in 2007, and they explored many fun places in the US, Mexico, Europe and Canada.

Bob is survived by his wife Jean; his children Diana (Deane) Churchill, Ann (Steve) Shirtum, Leeann (Dan) Brown, Allison Scarbrough, and Joseph Scarbrough; his grandchildren Zachary Shirtum, Andreonna (Josh) Garrett, Olivia Churchill, Samantha Churchill, Sydney Scarbrough, Lexie (Jeff) Schacht; great grandson Finley Schacht; and brothers William (Lonnie) and James. Preceding him in death was son Bill (Kate) Scarbrough.
