IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert Francis
Miller
October 3, 1938 – June 15, 2021
Robert "Bob" F. Miller, 82, passed away June 15, 2021, in Grand Rapids following a courageous battle with chronic kidney disease. Bob was born October 3, 1938, in Johnson City, New York, to John Francis Miller and Helen (Yurko) Miller.
Bob served in the US Air Force. In his earlier years, he spent time in New York, Florida, Michigan, and Southern Illinois. While residing in Southern Illinois, in addition to running the family owned and operated grocery store and meat market, he was actively involved in serving the Village of Cambria. His roles in Cambria over the years included mayor, fireman, police officer, and animal control (which because of his love for animals often led to him bringing animals home to his family). He returned to Michigan in 1985. In 1988, he established his permanent residence on Upper Silver Lake. It was at this time, he also became the meat manager at Gale's IGA, where he was a hardworking and dedicated employee until 2007. During his retirement, he enjoyed his beloved cats, fishing from his pontoon boat, riding his golf cart, Sunday morning breakfast with family and friends, and spending time outdoors. After his retirement, he was able to take some memorable trips with Deb and Steve, which included San Diego, Las Vegas, Tennessee, North Carolina, and other local places.
One of Bob's greatest accomplishments in life was being a father to his daughter, Debbie. He blessed her with a lifetime of unconditional love, support, guidance, and laughter. He provided her with many memories that she will forever cherish. Among many other things, she will miss their daily phone calls and FaceTime chats. Despite facing medical challenges over the years, he persevered with strength and a positive attitude.
Bob will be deeply missed by his daughter and son-in-law, Debbie Schrepper-Meister and Scott Meister. He is also survived by: his step grandson, Dallas (Brenda) Schrepper; sister-in-law, Ely Miller; nieces; nephew; his best friend, Rodger Gardy; and his cats, Oscar, Jimmy, and Beau.
Bob was preceded in death by: his son-in-law, Steven Schrepper, who he loved like a son; his father, John Miller; his mother and stepfather, Helen and Thomas Dougherty; his older brother, John "Jack" Miller; and his younger brother, Gerald Miller.
A celebration of life will be held later this summer. The date, time, and location will be announced at a later date.
Please consider the Crystal Valley Care Fund for memorial contributions in Bob's name.
Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, King-Hart Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
