Mr. Robert Louis Mudget, age 92, of Petoskey, MI, passed away Sunday, December 7, 2014. He was born July 25, 1922, in White Cloud, MI, son of Foster and Nina (Champion) Mudget. Robert graduated from White Cloud High School and married Beryl Wachter in Elkhart, IL on December 24, 1942. Bob was an owner of Newkirk Electric and was an electrical contractor. He served in the 8th Army Air Corps during World War II from February 8, 1941 to July 14, 1945. Robert received commendations for his service including the Air Medal GO 250 AF 44 with 3 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, the Distinguished Flying Cross GO 193 2nd BD 44, a Good Conduct Ribbon, the American Defense Service Ribbon and the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with 2 Bronze Battle Stars. He flew B-24 Bombers during the Normandy Air Offensive in Europe and retired in 1986 from his electrical career. Following his retirement, Bob became an avid woodworker, volunteered for the Hart Historical District and built the Mudget Cabin Exhibit and also donated his military memorabilia from his military service.
Robert is survived by his wife, Beryl Mudget of Petoskey, MI, daughters, Rhon Koch of Petoskey, MI, Laurel Hamilton of West Union, OH, Jan (Dale) Deverman of Rapid City, SD, Carol (Bruce) Noreen of Hersey, MI, Margret (Chad) Johnson of Petoskey, MI; son, Robert (Gloria) Mudget of Ludington, MI; eighteen grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren with one on the way. brother, Ken Mudget of Hesperia, MI; brother-in-law, Milo "Mike" Anderson of Muskegon, MI; sons-in-law, Michael Lewandowski of Toledo, OH, David Liefer of Muskegon, MI; He was preceded in death by his parents, daughters, Beth Lewandowski and Barbara Liefer, sisters, Cleo Anderson, Martha Evans and brothers, Hollis and Donald Mudget.
The Funeral Service for Robert will be held on Thursday, December 11, 2014 at King Funeral Home 2370 N. 72nd Street, Hart, MI 49420 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Earnest Cummings officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation on Wednesday evening December 10, 2014 form 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will take place at the Hart Cemetery.
