Mr. Roger Joe Christman, age 85, of Hart, passed away Friday, March 21, 2014. He was born June 10, 1928, in Shelby to Joseph and Blanche (Hallack) Christmann. He graduated from Shelby High School with the Class of 1946 and served in Korea with the US Army. On May 29, 1953, he married Geraldine "Gerry" Hipley at St. Gregory Catholic Church. Mr. Christman owned Christmann Insurance Agency and also worked for twenty years at Hart Builders Supply. A very community-minded citizen, Roger was a member of the Hart City Council, the Hart Hydro Board, the American Legion Post #234, the Oceana Eagles, the Chamber of Commerce, the Hart Hospital Board and served as President of the Hart School Board. Although he picked up golf later in life, he was a member of the Hole in One Club at Oceana Country Club. He was also a fan of Detroit Tigers Baseball. The family wishes to extend special thanks to Hospice, the staff at Cherry Blossom Manor, Linda and Duffy VanZoren, Lanore Westrate, and Pam Culler.

Roger is survived by four sons, Ken (Marsha) Greiner of Dexter, Michigan, Daniel (Valerie) Greiner of Austin, Texas, Kevin (Cindy) Christman of Petoskey, Michigan, and Chris (Sue Clark) Christman of Hart, Michigan; eight grandchildren, Christopher, Jennifer, Sarah, Edward "Eddie", Kelly, Kaitlin, Kyle, and Cody; his first great-grandchild is on the way. His wife, Gerry, preceded him in death on January 11, 1996. He was also preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Harley Christmann.

The Funeral Service for Mr. Christman will be Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at King Funeral Home in Hart with Father Anton Tran officiating. Interment will be in Hart Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at King Funeral Home. The family requests that any memorials be directed to Crystal Valley Care Fund, P.O. Box 451, Hart, MI 49420.
