Obituary

Mr. Roger C. King, age 73, of Norton Shores, died Monday January 12, 2009, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Kalamazoo on September 17, 1935 to Robert C. and Pauline V. (Swihart) King. Roger graduated from Muskegon High School Class of 1954, where he was a standout in football. He was the owner of King Radio and Hardware, a family business in Muskegon that spanned 54 years, until his retirement in 1998. On April 9, 1976 in Muskegon, he married Yvonne D. Nadeau. He was a member of the Lakeside United Methodist Church, lifetime member of the Muskegon Eagles Aerie #668, lifetime member and a Past Exalted Ruler of the Muskegon Elks Lodge #274. Mr. King is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Yvonne King of Norton Shores; their children, Terri (Charlie) Oyler of Muskegon, Patti (David) McGough of Muskegon, Brad (Rita) King of Hart, MI, Lynne (Ed) Radatz of Sandusky, OH, Lori (David) Pardee of Gardner, KS, Shelley King of Holland, MI, Robin VanderMeulen of Muskegon, Joni (Tom Rinness) King of Bay City, MI, Tammi (Jake) Veltman of North Muskegon, Lance (Mary) Broersma of Muskegon; daughter in law, Karen King of North Bend, NE; 29 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren. He is also survived by 2 brothers, Donald (Elsie) King of Muskegon, Leon (Dorothy) King of Cedar, MI; several nieces and nephews; 2 brothers in law, Rex (Diana) Nadeau of Fremont, Van (Judy) Nadeau of Fremont; 2 sisters in law, Jane Ann (Arnold) Rottman of Fremont, Vickie (Huey) Hendrix of Fremont. He will also be remembered by a close family friend, Reba Owen of Norton Shores. Mr. King was preceded in death by his parents, 1 son, Richard King, 1 brother, Walter King, father in law and mother in law, W.J. and Violet Nadeau. The Funeral Service for Mr. King will be held Friday, January 16, 2009 at 1:00 P.M. from The Lee Chapel of the Sytsema Funeral Homes, 6291 S. Harvey St., with Rev. Russell Damm and Rev. John Rager officiating. Interment will be in the Norton Shores Cemetery. Visitation Thursday from 3-8 P.M. at the funeral home, where an Elks Lodge of Sorrow Service will be held at 7:00 P.M. Memorial contributions may be given to Hackley VNS Hospice.
