Obituary

Rommie Harry MacDonald, 65, of Scottville, died Sunday, February 11, 2024, at Meijer Heart Center in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He was born December 16, 1958, at Paulina Sterns Hospital in Ludington, the son of Lewis D. and Anita V. (Whitaker) MacDonald.

Rommie grew up in Ludington, attended Ludington Area Schools, graduating in the Class of 1977, and continued to live in Mason County his whole life.  On March 31, 2001, at the United Methodist Church of Ludington on Harrison Street, Rommie married Jennifer Kristin Houk.

Rommie worked as a metrologist, programming coordinate measuring machines beginning at Whitehall Industries in Ludington, then for Woodward Aerospace in Zeeland until his retirement.

Rommie was especially proud of his Scottish name and heritage.  Additionally, he loved his farm where he enjoyed sharing produce and making fresh apple cider for different groups in the community.  He also enjoyed working on and driving muscle cars, motorcycles and boats.  Rommie competed in motocross races and attended many car shows over the years.

Rommie was a member of the United Methodist Church of Ludington where he attended regularly until the onset of Covid-19.  His faith remained strong and genuine and he was always excited to share God's love with others.  He even went on 5 mission trips to Haiti helping schools, churches and with the assembly of water purifying systems.  His heart was moved by the Haitians he met, especially a little orphan, Kelida, whom he put through high school and a university.

Rommie really enjoyed being surrounded with nature and wildlife.  He had a genuine love for all animals.

He will be sorely missed by his family and friends who knew him for his spontaneous humor and outgoing personality.  Throughout his life he was very kind and generous, and was always willing to help anyone in any situation.

Rommie's legacy will live on through his "Gift of Life" organ and tissue donations.
