In Loving Memory of Ronald Stuart Culp
January 20, 1930 – January 30, 2026
Ronald Stuart Culp, passed away peacefully in Traverse City on January 30, 2026, at the age of 96. Surrounded by his loving family, Ron left this world wrapped in the same profound love he spent a lifetime cultivating.
Ron’s journey was defined by a deep commitment to his country and community. He was a proud graduate of Michigan State University, where he earned a degree in Criminal Justice. Ron entered the military shortly after graduation. He served during the Korean War and continued his dedication to service in the Army Reserves for many years, eventually achieving the rank of Major. During this time, he earned a master's degree in social work from the University of Michigan. His career was a calling to service, spanning roles as a probation officer, clinical social worker, and a compassionate marriage and family counselor.
Above all, Ron was a family man. He shared 69 beautiful years of marriage with his late wife, Karen, enjoying sailing, skiing, and traveling extensively in the United States and Europe. Ron also loved sports. He was very skilled in racquet sports and added golfing in his later years.
Ron is survived by his four children, Diane (Sam), David, Deborah (Sam), and Dan (Janelle); eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and sisters Jeanie and Connie.
Ron was a master of authentic conversation, and had the uncanny ability to make every person feel seen, heard, and accepted. His legacy of kindness, wit, and "Papa" charm will be forever cherished.
A mid summer memorial is being planned. In lieu of flowers, consider honoring Ron’s commitment to education with a donation to North Ed Foundation or Interlochen Public Radio.
Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, Covell-Traverse City Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
