Obituary

Ronald "Ron: Wiley, longtime resident of Kewadin, passed away Thursday, November 25, 2021, at the age of 87.  He was surrounded by family, laughter, the retelling of fishing adventures, and love.

Ron was both in 1934, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to Joseph Wiley and Frances (Roberts) Wiley.  As a young boy, his first job was working as a pin setter, manually setting pins at the bowling alley near his homes.  He began his career with the Kroger Company at age 17.  He started as a bagger, worked his way through management and retired a Zone Manager with Kroger after 44 years of service.

Ron was an Eagle Scout, and excellent bowler, and had a passion for fishing, hiking, and boating.  He enjoyed many hiking adventures with his son Jeff and volunteered with North Country Trails, clearing and marking hundreds of miles of trail in Northern Michigan.  Yearly fishing trips to Tippy Dam and Bear Creek were a favorite with his sons and family, as well as trips to the UP with his son Ron.  He imparted his love of outdoor Michigan life to all of his children and grandchildren.  His greatest passion was family.  A kind and gentle man, he loved unconditionally, supported you no matter what, and was just a lot of fun to be with!  He loved preparing special dinners like prime rib and lamb shish kabob, and adored playing setback, poker, and cribbage.

Ron was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy (Powers) Wiley.  They loved to travel, built three amazing homes together, and most importantly, brought two families together.  Ron was also preceded in death by his first wife, Gloria (Duba) Wiley.  Ron is survived by their five children, Ronald Wilsey of Seattle, Washington; David DeRushia, of Peoria, Arizona; Patrick (Cathy) Wiley, and Jeffrey (Sherri) DeRushia, of Traverse city, Michigan; and Amy (Timothy) Long, of Louisville, Kentucky; grandchildren, Daniel (Andrea) DeRushia, Corey (Emily) DeRushia, Drew Long (Hannah Stone), Jessica Long, Chris DeRushia, Nico DeRushia, Karen Hodges, F.J. Stevenson, Philip Hodges, Troy Botbyle; great-grandchildren, Annika DeRushia, Ella DeRushia, Irene DeRushia, Justin DeRushia, Jenna McQueer, Tyler McQueer, Javin Stevenson; dear friends, Michael Stephens and Steven Hogatt; nieces, Julie Ledsworth, Jane Hoekzema, and nephew, Jerry Duba.

A celebration of life will take place at a later time with family and friends.  In lieu of flowers, consider donations to Munson Healthcare Hospice or North Country Trails in Lowell, Michigan.

Beacon Cremation and Funeral Service, Covell-Elk Rapids Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
