July 15, 1932 – January 8, 2025
Roy Heimler, 92, passed away January 8, 2025 surrounded by the love of his children.
Born in 1932, he spent his early childhood on North Manitou Island where his parents were farmers. A proud patriot, he joined the Army in 1952 and served as an Airborne paratrooper in the Korean war. He earned several medals including the Purple Heart for injuries sustained during battle.
He had several careers in his lifetime including 20 years in Lewiston, Michigan as ground maintenance supervisor and cemetery Sexton for Montmorency County. After retiring, he moved to Jasper, Georgia where he could be seen tooling around in his cherry red 1960 Dodge, until this last year when he went back to his roots and relocated once again to Northern Michigan to spend his final months surrounded by family.
He was predeceased by parents Roy and Matilda Heimler, his brother Bob Heimler and sister Judy Brownlie.
He is survived by children Scott (Deb) Heimler, Linda (Gerald) Spavins, Craig (Paula) Heimler and Todd Heimler; Grandchildren Steve Heimler, Ryan (Carissa) Rosenburg, Justin (Tommie) Rosenburg, Nicholas Heimler, Mickey Heimler, Emma Heimler, Cooper Heimler and Morgan Heimler, brothers Tom (Barb) Heimler and Jim (Shirley) Heimler plus 7 great grand children and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was truly one of a kind and deeply missed by all who knew him.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, March 7, 2025, at Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Road, Holly, Michigan 48442 with a Celebration of Life to follow immediately after. The family requests that instead of funeral black, please wear red, white, and blue in honor of our favorite patriot.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you donate to the Wounded Warrior Project.
