Obituary

Mrs. Ruth E. MacDonald Ellis, age 93, of Hart, passed away Tuesday, July 21, 2015. She was born January 24, 1922, in Fremont to Standish and Amanda (Anderson) MacDonald. Ruth married Beech Ellis on July 31, 1954 in Newaygo and he preceded her in death in 1992. She received Bachelor's Degree in 1970 from Western Michigan University and also Associates Degree from Western Michigan University. Ruth was a school teacher in Newaygo County. She also taught at the Hovey School, Golden Elementary School and Spitler School.

Mrs. Ellis loved to play the card game Skip-Bo. She also loved watching and feeding the birds at her home. Ruth enjoyed tending to her flower gardens and taught Sunday school at the Hart United Methodist Church. In her younger years, she was quite an athlete enjoying playing softball. During WW II, Ruth took a leave from teaching and went to work in the war effort, as many women did in that day, making munitions in Jackson, Michigan. Ruth's family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Cherry Blossom Manor and Hart Family Medical for their care of Ruth.

Ruth is survived by one daughter: Barbara Ellis of Hart and Rockville, MD; one sister: Helen Slaughter of Spring Lake, MI; three nephews, Kurt (Lori) Slaughter of Fenton, MI;, Scott Slaughter of Kentwood, MI; Maurice (Mary) Marchello of Lawrenceville, GA; niece, Sandra Stewart of Missouri City, TX; cousin, Aneita (Phil) Porter of Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Beech Ellis, daughter, Carolyn Ellis, three brothers, Donald MacDonald, Douglas MacDonald, Gordon MacDonald, sister, Mildred (Maurice) Marchello, aunt, Alma Anderson, uncle, Albert Anderson, brother In law, Bill Slaughter.

The Funeral Service for Mrs. Ellis will be Wednesday, July 29, 2015, at 1:00 pm at King Funeral Home & Cremation Services, in Hart with Pastor Steve Young officiating. Interment will be in the Hart Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. and Wednesday from one hour prior to the service at King Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Hart. The family requests that any memorials be directed to Hart Public Schools Scholarship Fund through the Oceana County Community Foundation, P.O. Box 367, Shelby, MI 49455.
