Obituary

KINGSLEY - Saloma (Wilson) Hayes, 96, formerly of Fife Lake, passed away peacefully, Monday, October, 25th, 2021.

Saloma was born on her parent's farm near Yale, Michigan on December 23rd, 1924.  She attended school in a one room schoolhouse from 1st thru 8th grade.  She then went on to graduate from Yale High School in 1942. After graduating, with World War II going on she moved to Detroit with a friend and worked for the Army Signal Corp as a clerk typist.

In 1943 she met her soon to be husband, Clayburn Hayes. They married six months later and resided in St Clair Shores, MI.  Later they moved to Rochester, MI and lived there for 25 years where they raised their family.  Sally drove school bus for Rochester for 10 years. Eventually her and Clayburn relocated to Fife Lake.  There they built a new home and lived for the next 30 years.  While living at Fife Lake they attended Fife Lake United Methodist Church.  After her husband passed away in 1994 Sally moved to Traverse City into an apartment until she needed a little extra care. At which time she moved in with her Grandson in Kingsley for the next 7 years.  Sally spent the last 3 years at Countryside Senior AFC in Kingsley where she received loving care until her passing.

Sally had many talents. To name a few she enjoyed sewing, quilt making, cooking, and canning.  She took great pride cooking fabulous meals for her family.  Family was important and she showed that in her loving and caring way.

Sally is survived by three children, her daughters, Winifred Hayes, Fife Lake MI, Bonnie Scott, Traverse City, MI and her son, Lanny Hayes, Hubbell, MI.  Grandchildren, Lori Robert, Scott (Marilyn) Matteson, Marty (Shawn) Matteson, Nikki (Jason) Miller, Phil (Lori) Scott, Matthew (Teresa) Tester.  Four nephews, John (Elaine) Bacheller, Mike (Susan) Bacheller, surviving spouse of David Bacheller, Suzanne, Jeff (Carol) Hayes, and Jim (Marilyn) Hayes.
