Shirley Mae Chester, 83, of Whitehall, died Thursday, June 27, 2019, at Poppen Hospice Residence in Muskegon.  She was born July 18, 1935, in Birmingham, Michigan, the daughter of Norman and Mae (Tossava) Carrier.

Shirley worked for many years at the Old Channel Inn, in Montague, and then worked for several more years at Howmet prior to retiring.  She was a member of the White Lake Eagles and the VFW Post 3256 Ladies Auxiliary in Montague.  In her spare time, Shirley loved traveling and being around people.

Shirley is survived by: her children, Ron Lauterberg of Branch, Randy (Lynn) Lauterberg of Wallawalla, Washington, Terri Lauterberg of Whitehall, and Gary Holmstrom of Ludington; 4 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; 2 nieces and 1 nephew.

Shirley was preceded in death by: her parents; her brother, Norman Carrier Jr.; and her long-time companion, Gene Schiller.

Cremation has taken place and per her wishes, no services will be held at this time.
